Echoing the golden carpet of ginkgo leaves that appears on surrounding streets during autumn, a vibrantly hued cashmere floor invites visitors into Aesop Kyoto Takashimaya—a space of gentle curvature, rich tactility and hushed tranquillity.

Designed in collaboration with Torafu Architects, the store’s layout took inspiration from the figure of the flaneur, who wanders the city, taking the time to appreciate the sights, scents, sounds—and people—that they encounter along the way: a central communal basin and thoughtfully located seating areas create an environment that encourages a slower pace and meaningful interactions within the bustle of the mall.

Shelving and cupboards are rendered in dark stained rawan veneer—a nod to the tree trunks that stand above their fallen leaves—while brass metal fixtures and countertops provide added lustre. To the rear of the store, visitors may explore our unconventional range of Eaux de Parfum; an infusion chamber offers the opportunity to imbue a piece of clothing with their chosen scent.
